May 3rd and 4th: Adire Wings Wall Hanging w/ Jumoke Ajanku

The Adire Wings Wall Hanging features detailed and symmetrical designs. Patterns are drawn onto the fabric using either a stencil or freehand drawing. The design areas are tied with raffia, string, or bands to resist the dye. The fabric is submerged in natural indigo dye, often multiple times, to achieve deep, rich colors.

May 10th and 11th: Fabric Printing with Live Flowers w/ Ayodele LaVeau

Immerse yourself in the vibrant world of natural dyeing, where flowers, plants, and the sun come together to transform ordinary fabrics into extraordinary works of art. Through a blend of Petal Hammering and Sun Printing techniques, you’ll create unique, nature-infused designs that reflect the beauty of the natural world. Choose from pre-treated upcycled fabrics or sarongs, allowing you to create one-of-a-kind wearables or decorative pieces to take home. Whether you're designing for style or art, this workshop offers a creative, hands-on experience that celebrates sustainability and creativity.

May 24th and 25th: Gullah-Style Rag Dolls w/ Kibibi Ajanku

Participants will use ancient skills and innovative technologies to create hand-dyed or hand-stitched Gullah-style rag dolls. A Gullah style rag doll typically reflects the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Gullah people—descendants of West African enslaved people who settled in the coastal regions and Sea Islands of South Carolina, Georgia, and northern Florida. These dolls are handmade, often using scraps of fabric and natural materials, and they carry deep cultural and historical significance.
